Tech Highlight: Rear Door Alert

Origin

Gather round and let me tell you a story of how pasta turned into a tech idea. It all started with a conversation between 2 Nissan employees who are also mothers. After a long day at the office, one of the moms forgot a pan of lasagna in the back seat of her car overnight, and let’s just say the smell did not go away quickly. After the experience she wondered, what if she had left something more important there... and that’s when the idea for Nissan Rear Door Alert was born!

How It Works

RDA (Rear Door Alert) monitors the rear door switches to detect their open/closed status before to and after a trip. If the system detects that a rear door was opened/closed before a trip, but then wasn’t re-opened again after you have reached your destination, given the vehicle was put in park and the ignition cycled off, the system will let you know with a display in the instrument panel and progressing to subtle but distinctive chirps of the horn. For the times that you may not want this option to be on, this system can be turned off temporarily or permanently through prompts in the cluster display.
