Nissan Miniature Car Wash Shows Automaker's Commitment to Quality

Nissan’s technical center in Farmington Hills, Michigan has all sorts of technological goodies aimed at ensuring and improving the quality of the automaker’s vehicles.

There’s nothing you won’t find there, from rooms equipped with electrical currents to measure how a vehicle behaves as it passes telephone lines to rooms that measure how a model holds up in -40 degree weather. And then there’s the miniature car wash.

Replicating the hardships of the carwash

Nissan’s miniature carwash may seem like a child’s toy, but it is in fact a very serious piece of equipment that aims to explore how Nissan’s paint will hold up to a carwash. Indeed, Nissan’s miniature car wash uses Arizona dirt and high-intensity jets to simulate the rough impact of a car wash on a vehicle’s paint.

In doing so, Nissan engineers can tweak the paint and ensure that it holds up in the toughest conditions. The car wash also enables Nissan to verify if the paint will hold up to other elements as well, and how long it will hold up.
